Description: Anthonij Rupert Optima 2021 is a richly textured and refined red that showcases the estate’s commitment to Old World structure and New World fruit intensity. Hand‑picked grapes from selected vineyards in Franschhoek and Darling undergo meticulous sorting and extended maceration before ageing for 20 months in 225 L French oak barriques (≈30% new), followed by further bottle ageing for harmony and balance. On the nose, expect a layered bouquet of black berries, cassis, hedgerow fruit, mocha and spice. The palate is plush, rounded and supple, with flavours of dark fruitcake, black cherry, baking spice and pencil shavings, supported by fine, integrated oak and vibrant freshness. Silky tannins and a long, elegant finish make it both delicious now and suitable for further cellaring.
